Kitchen Progress - Kitchen Units - Day One & Two of installation

We're on the home stretch...the kitchen units have been delivered & installed!! 

This week the kitchen fitters have been in for 3 days.

DAY ONE OF KITCHEN FITTING:

Kitchen carcasses have been fitted 

You can see in the above photo, that the units are sitting on wooden planks.

The reason for this is that we wanted taller than standard height units.

The standard height for kitchen units are 900mm:

150mm plinth

720mm units

30mm worktop

We chose to increase the height of our plinths to 200mm which meant the units had to be raised on the planks to accommodate the new height.

Our heights for the kitchen units are 950mm:

200mm plinth

720mm units

30mm worktop

The newly fitted boiler is located in the end tall larder.

  DAY TWO OF KITCHEN FITTING: 

Appliances & internal mechanisms have been fitted 

Seimens Oven

Seimens Microwave Combination oven

Neff Induction Hob

300mm Wine Cooler

70 / 30 Fridge Freezer

Central Island with Induction Hob 

'Lamons' Kidney shaped pull out corner shelves

  

In between Day Two & Day Three of kitchen fitting the Electricians have been in & positioned the down lights.

They have connected the cables and put them onto different circuits.

We realised we had a problem with the positioning of the light switches when the wall units were installed.

They were too high & sat too close to the bottom of the wall units.

As we're having a splash back, the cut outs for the plugs were just too close to the edge which would be weak points and possibly crack.

Therefore the electricians had to move them down, as you can see in the below photos.

The walls will now need to be re-plastered to clean up the mess. 

  

Kitchen Progress - Plasterboard & Undercoat Painting

The walls & ceiling have been sanded & smoothed down, ready to be painted, however some of the areas of the plaster are still not dry.

The plaster board has been attached to the drop down ceiling.

The white undercoat painting has started today, ready for the kitchen units to be delivered tomorrow.

Kitchen Progress - Dropdown Ceiling & Extractor

This extractor has caused us the most problems.

Firstly receiving so many that were damaged, to now trying to work out how it should be installed.

The instructions that came with the Best Cirrus Britannia extractor are not detailed enough at all and have very limited information & diagrams.

The positioning of the extractor is really dictated by where your ceiling joists are located.

The motor connected to the top of the extractor can only be fitted between  the ceiling joists.

We are lucky that our induction hob (which sits directly underneath in the island) is not in the centre of the island, we were able to work with the extractor being moved approx 200mm to the left.

The extractor is designed to sit flush within the ceiling however the height of the extractor with it's motor makes this impossible.

The motor is 350mm, yet the height of most ceiling joists are only up to a maximum of 200mm so there is no way that this extractor could possibly sit flush in any ceiling.

A suspended, drop down ceiling had to be built to accommodate the height of the motor for a flush ceiling finish.

The legs on the extractor are adjustable in height but unless the legs fit between your ceiling joists these need to be cut, which ours did.
